ABOUT Jo Svaren
I have wanted to be an artist since I was a young child. It was something that has always been in me. I have spent years making art and teaching others. In 2008, I was able to do an artist residency at the Burren College of Art in Ireland. It was a turning point for me. At that time, artists around me were making beautiful landscapes in response to the stunning views. I did as well but it didn't feel right. Eventually, I decided to scrape my entire paint palette onto the canvas. It felt like freedom! I could no longer paint or draw like someone else. I absolutely had to do what I was meant to do.
I feel compelled to create. I am inspired by everyday moments, beautiful color combinations, interesting textures, and my children. When I create, I often find myself in a bit of a mediative state. Sometimes, the imagery comes to me fast and furious and others it is quite slow and thoughtful. The goal is always the same, to share myself as I am in that moment.
